The beauty of Bentley paint

When it comes to commissioning a new Bentley, few decisions you make will say as much about your personal identity and taste as the finish you choose for the exterior. That’s why Bentley offers such a vast range of options, covering solid, satin and metallic paints, in a dazzling array of beautiful colours. To learn more about the wealth of exterior finishes available, you can configure a car using the Bentley Configurator or explore the options available with Mulliner, Bentley’s personal commissioning division.

New worlds of colour and light

The process of painting a Bentley is far from simple. Depending on the type of finish you select, it is likely to involve several stages. Each one is carried out by hand to ensure a truly flawless result - one that uses the strength of your chosen colour and the play of the light to maximise the visual impact of your car.

Solid paints: colour at its purest

A solid colour makes a bold statement, whether it’s a bright primary colour such as a red or blue, or a more subtle shade, such as a solid grey, black or white.

As metallic paint has become more widespread over time, solid colours have come back into vogue, with many drivers now opting for the visual impact that a black, white or primary colour can offer.

The simplicity of solid colours can work especially well when paired with additional exterior options, such as black exterior detailing, for a very graphic, high-contrast look.

To explore your options for the exterior of your next Bentley, you can use the online Bentley configurator to explore the full range of possibilities.

Satin paints: subtlety and style

Satin finishes have a striking visual effect, precisely because they lack the high-gloss outer layer of solid and metallic paints. In its place is a less shiny lacquer that delivers a more contemporary and dynamic look - or, depending on the colour, a more elegant and understated aesthetic.

Satin finishes interact with light differently, scattering it rather than reflecting it. They can work especially well with darker exterior detailing, rather than bright chrome. And because they remain relatively rare in the automotive world, you can expect a satin finish to turn heads, wherever you drive.

Bentley currently offers 15 colours in satin finishes, chosen by the Bentley Colour and Trim team - and all of them are available right across the Bentley range. To see how they might look on the car of your choice, take a look at the online Bentley configurator today.

Metallic paints: classic beauty

Metallic colours can be considered the classic modern luxury car finish, due to the undeniable depth of colour they offer. Nothing else will emphasise your car’s sweeping lines in quite the same way, especially in bright sunlight.

With their sparkling highlights, metallic colours offer an incredible way to bring your Bentley’s bodywork to life. It’s one reason they why they continue to represent the majority of Bentley’s paints - a range that, depending on which car you choose, currently extends to more than 80 colours.

Finished to perfection

Whichever finish you choose, your car will be sprayed by hand in the paint shop by highly skilled professionals. Multiple layers will be applied to ensure an even and consistently beautiful finish, free of any imperfections.

For satin finishes in particular, there is even more to the process. Your car will be carefully sprayed as normal, with a paint in your choice of colour. It will then be sanded by hand, then cleaned, masked, dusted and cleaned once more, to remove any trace of the gloss outer layer that gives solid and metallic finishes their distinctive shine. A special clear lacquer is then added in its place, to achieve a flawless satin finish. It’s a process that can take up to 55 hours in total.

Whether you opt for a solid, metallic or satin finish, the final stage is inspection and sign-off, by an experienced member of Bentley’s Production Quality Team. Only then will your car be deemed ready for delivery to you.
